Rayo Vallecano defeat Valencia at home

Gennaro Gattuso suffered his third La Liga defeat in charge of Valencia, as Rayo Vallecano claimed a 2-1 victory on Saturday, while extending their unbeaten record over the Catalan side to eight matches.

Having scored just on minute 5, Isi Palazón put his team ahead 1-0. A quick free-kick from Óscar Trejo was driven into the path of Palazón, who performed a stylish left-footed finish.

After a difficult start to the season, Valencia have not pressed enough in the first half. The upsetting game of Gattuso's team continued in the second half. Shortly after the interval, with Nico González diverting a mistimed clearance into his own net. Attempting to clear his lines following a Vallecano corner, the midfielder passed the ball through Mamardashvili in the visitors’ goal.

In added time, Mouctar Diakhaby escaping the Vallecano defence successfully shortened the lead of Vallecano 2-1. It would count for little, as the hosts held on to record their first victory at home in 12 La Liga attempts.

Rayo Vallecano occupy the 10th position in La Liga table with 7 points. The next match will be played against Athletic Bilbao.
