The third Grand Slam title for Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek, WTA no. 1, has proven her dominance in women's tennis one more time by conquering her first US Open title. She confidently defeated Ons Jabeur, WTA no. 5, 6-2 7-6 in the final at Flushing Meadows in1h53 minutes.

Already triumphed twice at Roland-Garros (2020, 2022), now Iga Swiatek has 3 Grand Slam trophies at 21 years old. She will try to reach Naomi Osaka’s achievement of 4 Grand Slam titles and, who knows, if Swiatek dares to beat Williams sisters’ records with Serena winning 23 major titles and Venus winning 7.

On her way to Flushing Meadows, the Polish did not perform her best game after her second Roland Garros trophy where she had won her 6th consecutive title from the start of the season. Clay and hard courts remained to be favourite by world no. 1 playing where she usually dominated and still dominates.

Wimbledon did not bring any kind of luck for Swiatek where she was beaten in the 3 round losing her fantastic winning streak which got up to 37 victories.

Being eliminated in the quarters in her 3 following tournaments, Swiatek was able to fully focus on the upcoming US Open to prove her dominance one more time.

With now 7 titles and 57 matches won in 2022, Iga Swiatek is also widening the gap in the WTA rankings a little more. She is the first player to win two major trophies in the same year since Angelique Kerber in 2016, and will have 10,365 points on Monday, almost double a new runner-up Ons Jabeur (5,090).
